Project details

Royal Navy's survival training centre simulates a helicopter incident or accident over water.

Project role

Design and specification of the pool water treatment systems and water features; site monitoring of installation and commissioning works.

At Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton (RNAS Yeovilton), Devin designed and specified pool water treatments systems for 3 pools, pool tanks, and all of the features to simulate the potential conditions of an emergency landing in the sea.  Devin’s brief was to make this as realistic as possible and design a facility capable of simulating full climatic conditions with waves, counter current, rain, wind and spray – this pool can have a two metre swell!

The images do not do it justice, take a look at this video which demonstrates the third stage of the training, rescue by air, where personnel are winched from their life rafts and recovered to safety.
